Manitoba Telecom Services (MTS) has posted first quarter net income of CAD54.2 million (USD53.9 million), up from CAD52.9 million a year ago, on revenues that rose by 2.6% year-on-year to CAD478.8 million. In the three months ended 31 March 2008, revenues from mobile, high speed internet, IPTV and other growth services expanded 18%, more than offsetting a 1.1% decline in local telephony turnover and a 7.7% fall in long-distance revenue. Growth services accounted for CAD204.9 million of the latest quarter’s sales, or 43% of the total compared with 37% a year before. MTS is expecting to earn less than half its revenues from traditional fixed line services by sometime next year.
