12 May 2008

Heidelberg-based cableco Kabel Badem-Wurttemberg (Kabel BW) has reported a 90% increase in its broadband customer base over the previous twelve months. At 31 March 2008 the operator had 272,000 subscribers taking a broadband and telephony service, up from 144,000 a year earlier. This represents 12% of its overall cable TV user base of 2.3 million. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, Kabel BW is Germany’s third-biggest cableco by subscribers.

Kabel BW has said it intends to invest heavily in its networks over the remainder of the year. The planned cash injection of EUR150 million (USD232.3 million) is aimed at expanding the availability of high-speed (up to 32Mbps downlink) two-way infrastructure to an additional 300,000 rural households, increasing overall coverage of Kabel BW’s network to 3.5 million homes.
