CANTV launches pre-paid DSL

7 May 2008

Venezuelan state-run incumbent fixed line operator CANTV has launched pre-paid ADSL broadband internet access, under its existing ABA brand, BNamericas reports. With payment possible via CANTV’s Un1ca pre-paid card, a 256kbps connection for a month including 100MB of downloads costs VEB20,000 (USD9.34), with each additional 1MB costing VEB160. As a promotion, CANTV is forgoing the usual ABA subscription start-up fee of VEB60,000, which includes a modem. According to the telco’s press release, the pre-paid offer forms part of its strategy to offer services to the entire country, with more affordable rates for lower socio-economic groups.
