6 May 2008

Portuguese alternative telco Sonaecom has narrowed its net loss in the first quarter, from EUR6.0 million (USD7.9 million) in Q1 2007 to EUR5.5 million this year. Turnover was up 20% year-on-year at EUR237.7 million, with the results boosted by takeovers of smaller players last year. The number of fixed access lines in service fell 5% in the three months to the end of March to reach 775,163, while the number of subscribers at mobile subsidiary Optimus rose 8.2% y-o-y to 2.29 million.
