Chinese equipment vendor Huawei has installed a 2,700km fibre-optic network based on next generation wavelength division multiplexing (NG-WDM) technology for Hungarian incumbent Magyar Telekom (MT). The rollout was reportedly completed in just three months and covers all of the country including the capital Budapest. The NG-WDM will enable MT to evolve from providing traditional voice call services over its legacy DWDM infrastructure to more data-oriented next generation services by quadrupling transmission bandwidth from 10Gbps to 40Gbps.
