DTAC’s profits up by 51%

For the first quarter of 2008, Thailand’s second-biggest mobile operator DTAC posted a 51% rise in net profit to THB2.35 billion (USD74 million) due to rising revenues and lower costs, up from THB1.56 billion a year ago. Turnover in the three months ended 31 March increased by 9.5% year-on-year to THB17.7 billion, while EBITDA climbed 20% to THB5.7 billion. DTAC, along with Thailand’s other GSM operators AIS and True Move is now banking revenues from bilateral network interconnection agreements implemented between the cellcos last year. DTAC also now enjoys a 5% tax saving in reward for listing on the Bangkok stock exchange last year. The company added 884,000 net new subscribers in 1Q08 to reach a total of 16.7 million.
