Japan’s leading mobile operator by subscribers, NTT DoCoMo, has announced plans to merge its eight wholly owned subsidiaries – Hokkaido, Tohoku, Tokai, Hokuriku, Kansai, Chugoku, Shikoku, and Kyushu – into the parent company by 1 July 2008. The merger plan was approved at an EGM of DoCoMo’s board of directors and is part of a corporate strategy aimed at meeting the demands of a changing mobile market by streamlining the group’s management structure.
