The Taiwanese government says it is considering a plan to transfer the ownership of experimental WiMAX base stations to WiMAX licence holders at the end of trials later this year. The trials were set up as part of the government’s M-Taiwan programme and involve a number of firms such as Chunghwa Telecom which do not hold full WiMAX concessions. The National Communications Commission (NCC) is looking at ways of having the trial infrastructure incorporated into the rollouts of licence holders to help cut their deployment costs, DigiTimes reports. Taiwan is home to six WiMAX licensees, three in the north of the country and three in the south. The country’s first commercial WiMAX services are expected to be launched towards the end of this year.
