25 Apr 2008

Star One, the satellite subsidiary of Brazilian long-distance operator Embratel, has launched a new generation satellite Star One C2 from the Kourou base in French Guiana, reports BNamericas citing a statement from the parent company. C2 is twice as powerful as the operator’s Brasilsat B1 orbiter, which it will replace, and will broaden coverage to all South America, Mexico and Florida, US. The launch completes Embratel’s USD598 million investment in its C series satellite programme and will allow it to offer HDTV broadcasting, as well as voice, TV, radio and internet transmission services.
