Watchdog may loosen requirements for network separation

Italy’s telecoms regulator Agcom is considering softening some of its requirements regarding the separation of Telecom Italia’s commercial and networks businesses. A report from Thomson Financial which quotes local newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore says the watchdog might drop its requirement for a full divisional separation and instead push for stricter measures to be introduced to guarantee the administrative and accounting separation of the retail and network operations. Telecom Italia’s wireline network business has had its own administrative and accounting structure since 2002.
