Nigeria to form two new ministries

The Federal Government (FG) of Nigeria is planning to rejig the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC), into two new ministries, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and the Ministry of Information (MI). According to the Minister of Information and Communications, John Odey, the MCIT will be responsible for formulation and implementation of policy covering information technology, broadcasting and telecoms. Also under the plan, the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission will cease to exist and its functions passed to the telecoms watchdog, the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC). Any changes would have to be passed by the 109 senators and 360 representatives of the National Assembly before being enacted.
