Movistar extends fibre-optic backbone

Movistar Venezuela has earmarked investment of USD10 million for extensions totaling 365km to its fibre-optic backbone network to cover the cities of Maracaibo, Cabimas, Ciudad Ojeda, Sur del Lago, Carora and Barquisimeto, reports BNamericas. The president of the Telefonica-owned cellco, Juan Antonio Abellan, said the expansion will give the company extra bandwidth for the provision of its mobile and fixed-wireless voice, data, broadband internet and public telephony services. Movistar Venezuela has already deployed 1,125km of fibre-optic infrastructure.
