16 Apr 2008

According to Wang Jianzhou, CEO of China Mobile, his company will donate 15,000 TD-SCDMA handsets and SIM cards to the Beijing Olympics Organising Committee for use during the games. At the beginning of this month China Mobile began testing its TD-SCDMA network in eight cities: Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Shenyang, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Xiamen and Qinhuangdao. Users in these cities can subscribe to the Chinese own-brand 3G service by purchasing a special mobile handset with the prefix 157. The fee for local outgoing calls is RMB0.4 (USD0.05) per minute and is free for incoming calls. China Mobile said that it would offer users 50% discounts for the service during the trial commercial period.
