Telefonica Chile deems Telmex lawsuit 'inappropriate'

Reuters reports that Telefonica Chile has slammed a lawsuit brought by Telmex Chile alleging monopolistic practices as ‘inappropriate.’ Telmex said last month it was suing Telefonica for allegedly trying to block a 2004 government auction of a wireless broadband spectrum. Telmex won the WiMAX auction, but the grant of the operating licence was delayed as a result of litigation brought by Telefonica. ‘(The lawsuit) is inappropriate,’ Jose Moles, chief executive of Telefonica Chile, told reporters after a shareholder meeting. ‘The WiMAX issue happened two years ago. We don’t really understand why, when two years had lapsed, they have come back to the issue.’
