Alca-Lu upgrades OTE’s fibre network

11 Apr 2008

In a press release, Alcatel-Lucent (Alca-Lu) announced that it is upgrading and expanding the existing transport infrastructure of Greek former monopoly telco OTE, as part of projects valued at more than EUR12 million. The fibre-optic technology currently being implemented by Alca-Lu will support OTE’s ongoing programme to extend high speed service coverage in major urban and provincial areas of Greece. The French-US vendor has undertaken the upgrade of OTE’s existing optical backbone routes – already based on its next-generation synchronous digital hierarchy (NG-SDH) and dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) equipment, the upgrade of the submarine link between Bari in Italy and the Greek island of Corfu, as well as the rollout of new optical multi–service rings throughout Greece.
