Telecom seeks management rights to 850MHz spectrum

7 Apr 2008

Telecom New Zealand has applied to the country’s Commerce Commission seeking clearance to acquire management rights to paired frequencies in the 825MHz-840MHz and 870MHz-885MHz bands. Existing management rights to this 850MHz spectrum, which Telecom uses to provide CDMA mobile services, expire in 2012. Telecom hopes to renew its management rights for a further 20 year period. New Zealand’s other cellular operator, Vodafone, recently renewed its rights to use spectrum in the 900MHz band.
