Vex increases Wi-Fi coverage with 3G backhaul

3 Apr 2008

Brazilian Wi-Fi network operator Vex has expanded service coverage to a number of remote locations in the country by installing ‘hotspots’ that utilise 3G technology, reports BNamericas citing a company statement. It is understood Vex will use 3G networks to deploy Wi-Fi hotspots in areas where there is currently no availability of either fixed or fixed wireless access (FWA) broadband networks. It will also install Wi-Fi in mobile locations such as on buses and trains, it said. Vex hopes to have 2,000 charter and inter-city buses equipped with its equipment by the end of this year.
