Embratel to launch WiMAX in a dozen cities

Brazilian fixed line operator Embratel Participacoes plans to launch WiAMX services in twelve state capitals today, reports BNamericas quoting an article in the Folha de S Paulo newspaper. The official launch will take place at the operator’s Brasilia headquarters, with simultaneous launches taking place in Belem, Belo Horizonte, Curitiba, Fortaleza, Goiania, Porto Alegre, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, Sao Luis and Sao Paulo. Embratel has invested BRL175 million (USD101 million) to get WiMAX off the ground. The entire project is expected to cost BRL600 million with 61 cities targeted for coverage by the end of the year.
