Bids for wireless licences due 7 May

The Panamanian government has approved the bidding documents for an auction of two new mobile licences, writes BNamericas. Public services regulator Asep will now publish the call for pre-qualified companies to present economic offers on 7 May, where upon the winning bidders will also be announced. The three companies pre-qualified to take part are; Caribbean wireless group Digicel; Millicom-owned Telemovil El Salvador; and America Movil’s Claro Panama. Once the licences have been awarded, the operators will have four months to roll out a limited service to the capital, with national coverage expected to be achieved within eight months.
