2 Apr 2008

Mexico’s transport and communications ministry (SCT) plans to launch auctions for five spectrum bands, including those suitable for 3G and WiMAX services, in 45 days time, writes BNamericas citing an SCT statement. The five bands to be auctioned are: 1.9GHz and 1.7GHz/2.1GHz (designated for 3G mobile services); 3.4GHz-3.7GHz (WiMAX); 71GHz/81GHz (wireless broadband backhaul); and 410MHz/430MHz (signaling systems used by trains). The auctions will start with the 1.9GHz spectrum and SCT has asked Cofetel to complete all the auctions within 180 days. The government expects the auctions to generate proceeds in the order of USD1 billion.
