Government mulls selling MTN Rwanda stake

According to allafrica.com, the Rwandan government is considering selling its stakes in five companies on the country’s newly created bourse. Rwandan finance minister James Musoni said in Kigali last week that the list includes MTN Rwanda, in which the government owns 10%, insurance company Sonarwa (10%) and brewery Bralirwa (10%). According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database MTN Rwanda is 55% owned by the South African MTN Group, with 35% owned by TriStar Investments. At the end of 2007 the Rwandan firm was the sole provider of wireless services in the country and had 652,000 subscribers.
