Japan Communications looks to launch data service in the summer

Japanese MVNO start-up Japan Communications has submitted a request to the country’s largest network operator NTT DoCoMo asking to interconnect its own infrastructure with the mobile giant’s 3G FOMA network as part of a plan to launch data services in the summer. Japan Communications says it hopes to begin offering data services to corporate users between July and September, and says it will offer a fixed fee service model at launch, which will be offered through a range of smart phones. It hopes to attract new users to the fledgling service by undercutting the tariffs currently charged by its rivals. According to Japan Corporate News, DoCoMo says it cannot currently give a firm date for connection to commence as it is still developing the billing software for the MVNO service.
