UTStarcom has announced it has forged an agreement with Jersey Telecom to design and deploy a new end-to-end, all-IP fixed voice network that will replace the telco’s current PSTN. On completion, Jersey Telecom, whose current fixed line system supports more than 65,000 subscribers, will have the ability to extend services to a larger subscriber base and deploy new advanced voice and data services. ‘The replacement of our PSTN network with an IP-based Next Generation Network solution is a major milestone in the continuing development of the JT Group,’ said managing director Bob Lawrence.
Jersey Telecom Group is the principal licensed public telecoms provider in the Channel Islands. The group is made up of Jersey Telecom and two subsidiary companies; Wave Telecom (Guernsey) and Navitas Telecom, a maritime telecoms provider.
