Following the recent news that the FCC auction of airwaves vacated by television broadcasters raised USD19.12 billion, it now emerges that Verizon and AT&T won more than USD16 billion-worth of licences, according to recently released auction results. Verizon won the biggest nationwide block of spectrum, with a USD4.74 billion bid that trumped the high profile USD4.71 billion offer from Google (which won no licences), FCC officials said. Verizon also won 25 regional licences, whilst AT&T won 227 regional concessions. In total Verizon and AT&T spent USD9.4 billion and USD6.6 billion respectively.
