Mobile WiMAX trials springing up in Thailand

US-based technology vendor Motorola has reported that it has contributed to successful trials of a mobile WiMAX system in partnership with Thai fibre-optic network provider United Information Highway (UIH). The pilots have been undertaken in Bangkok and Phuket under UIH’s trial WiMAX licence, in anticipation of Thailand’s government allowing commercial WiMAX services to be launched, hopefully next year. Meanwhile, WiMAX solution provider Posdata, which uses the brand name FLYVO, says it is executing mobile WiMAX field demonstrations in conjunction with a local telco in the Bangkok area. It was previously reported that Posdata was working with the largest Thai private telcos True and TT&T.
