BSNL to open bids for eight million DSL lines

News site The Economic Times reports that state owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has invited bids for eight million digital subscriber lines (DSL) in a deal expected to be worth several million dollars. BSNL has informed prospective bidders that the DSLs should support content services such as IPTV, internet telephony and Video on Demand (VoD), as well as enterprise services such as Virtual Private Network over broadband. Several prospective bidders have already expressed interest including Alcatel-Lucent, Nokia, Ericsson, ZTE and Huawei. BSNL has called a meeting of all vendors to discuss the terms of the proposed deal, which is due to be held in the next few days.
