Ofcom prepares for auction of ‘L-Band’ Spectrum

British telecoms regulator Ofcom has announced it has confirmed plans to auction radio spectrum in the 1452MHz to 1492MHz band, also known as the ‘L-band’. The spectrum is suitable for mobile multimedia services, such as mobile TV and wireless broadband access. The auction is part of Ofcom’s programme to release around 400MHz of prime spectrum. The provisional deadline for applications has been set for 10 April 2008 with the auction itself likely to start at the end of April.
