MTN Cyprus launches HSDPA

17 Mar 2008

MTN Cyprus (formerly Areeba), owned by South African group MTN, has launched commercial 3.5G HSDPA mobile services in Nicosia. The cellco says it limited its initial rollout to the capital to meet high localised demand for mobile data applications, but intends to expand coverage to all major urban areas on the island in phases. Rival Cytamobile is also planning to upgrade its W-CDMA network with a HSDPA platform in the first half of this year.
