Digicel wins GSM licence

Digicel Pacific has strengthened its footprint in the region with the announcement that it has been awarded a licence to operate a GSM network in Vanuatu. Digicel Pacific will now offer a seamless pan-pacific GSM network across five markets including Samoa, Papua New Guinea, Tonga, Fiji and Vanuatu. With mobile penetration in Vanuatu at just 16%, Digicel says it is planning an investment of USD35 million, to build ‘an extensive state-of-the-art GSM network that will provide unbeatable network coverage and a range of innovative services.’
