German fixed line provider Arcor, a subsidiary of the UK’s Vodafone Group, and ISP 1&1 Internet, part of United Internet, have reportedly inked a wholesale deal under which 1&1 will market Arcor’s DSL connections under its own brand name. The ISP has become the second of Arcor’s major wholesale DSL customers. A similar agreement was struck with Vodafone Germany in 2007. No financial details were disclosed.
According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, Arcor had 2.48 million DSL subscribers at the end of 2007, and its unbundled infrastructure passes over 60% of all German households, a figure which it plans to increase to 70% by the end of 2009. United Internet, which offers internet access and VoIP telephony under the brands 1&1, GMX and WEB.DE, had 2.67 million subscribers at the dame date, supplied via incumbent Deutsche Telekom’s network, making it Germany’s second largest retail broadband provider.
