Competition dispute ‘over’

14 Mar 2008

Telecom Egypt (TE), owner of 50% of fixed line operator Lacom, has revealed it considers the dispute concerning uncompetitive regulations within the Algerian telecoms market resolved. It had previously considered selling its share in Lacom after claiming the regulator was favouring Algeria’s dominant fixed line provider, Algerie Telecom, at its expense. However, the talks between Telecoms Minister Boudjemaa Haichour and his Egyptian counterpart Tarek Kamel proved successful with the company now planning to invest further in Lacom’s operations to take advantage of the buoyant Algerian market.
