Swisscom says 1,400 lines have been unbundled

13 Mar 2008

Daniel Staub, head of Swisscom Wholesale, has revealed that the introduction of local loop unbundling (LLU) last April has hardly had any effect: only 1,400 lines have since been unbundled from the telco’s network. LLU is a highly contentious issue in the central European state. Swisscom claims it has been doing everything it can to make the process as fair as possible, while the alternative operators – notably TDC-owned Sunrise Communications – have repeatedly lambasted the state-owned telco for false promises and high prices. Regulator ComCom is currently deliberating a number of LLU-related issues, ranging from price charged to whether it should force Swisscom to open up its fibre/VDSL network as well as its copper infrastructure.
