Vietnam’s Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC) has recently allowed Saigon Postel Corporation (SPT) to pilot a WiMAX project, according to the Saigon Times. With the licence, SPT becomes the sixth player after incumbent Vietnam Post and Telecoms (VNPT), Viettel, Vietnam Multimedia Corporation (VTC), Corporation for Financially Promoting Technology (FPT) and EVN Telecom, to deploy the wireless technology. SPT, which runs the S-Fone mobile network, will test WiMAX in the 2.3GHz to 2.4GHz band, in Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) and one of the neighbouring provinces of Tay Ninh, Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Ba Ria-Vung Tau or Long An.
