Mobitel, Slovenia’s largest mobile operator by subscribers, posted a 7% year-on-year rise in net income to EUR50.6 million (USD77.8 million) in 2007, while operating profit climbed 18% to EUR79 million, on revenues that increased by just under 4% to EUR434.5 million. The GSM operator, a wholly owned subsidiary of incumbent telco Telekom Slovenije, invested EUR46 million in CAPEX last year, and forecasts network spending to increase to EUR60 million in 2008 as it develops 3G/3.5G infrastructure and other services. Mobitel reported a total of 1.263 million subscribers, including 186,000 3G users, at the end of December, when UMTS network coverage reached 72.8% of the population.
