Senatel gives Porta a week to make its mind up

6 Mar 2008

Telecoms regulator Senatel has given mobile operator Porta until 12 March to decide whether to accept new conditions for the renewal of its mobile concession, reports local daily El Comercio and quoted by BNamericas. According to Jaime Geurrero, head of Senatel, Porta requires the additional time to consult with parent company America Movil. Guerrero stated that the value of the new concession contract and the new mobile rate ceiling of USD0.22 per minute are not negotiable. The current licences of Porta and rival Movistar are due to expire later this year.
