6 Mar 2008

Swedish vendor Ericsson has been selected by German mobile operator E-Plus to expand and upgrade its W-CDMA network. Under the three-year agreement, Ericsson will upgrade E-Plus’ existing W-CDMA base stations and add new ones to increase network coverage and capacity. The deal also includes the expansion and enhancement of the cellco’s microwave transmission infrastructure. No financial details have been released.

E-Plus was Germany’s third largest cellco by subscribers at the end of 2007, according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database. At that date it had around 14.8 million users, a 15% market share.
