Telkom fights cable thefts

Telkom South Africa says it lost ZAR863 million (USD122 million) in the nine months from April 2007 to copper cable thefts. Chief operations officer Motlatsi Nzeku says the firm has been forced to employ armed security guards to secure sensitive cable routes and has fitted vulnerable sections with alarms to fight theft, Bloomberg reports.
