Israeli cellco Cellcom has announced the launch of a VoIP pilot scheme for residential consumers. The pilot aims to test the service quality assurance and whether the new service is economically viable. News site Globes Online reports that Cellcom has concluded that entering the consumer telephony services market is essential if it is to challenge rival cellco Hutchison International subsidiary Partner Communications, which already has a foothold in the market via its 3G VoIP service Obox live.
