Virgin Mobile has announced a deal with Tata TeleServices to start offering wireless services in India under the Virgin brand, specifically aimed at the youth market. Virgin Group chairman Richard Branson said Virgin Mobile India will target the 15 to 30 age group. The UK-based mobile group said it has no plans to construct its own network or purchase an Indian operator. The deal is not described as an MVNO agreement either; instead Virgin will take a share of the revenue in return for Tata using its brand name. Tata will continue to use its own brand for its other services. According to Reuters, Tata is aiming for five million Virgin subscribers by 2011, with expected revenues in excess of INR350 billion (USD8.75 billion) in 2010.
