Internet subscriber base passes 100,000

The Times of Oman, reporting recent figures from incumbent telco Oman Telecoms Company (Omantel), reveals significant growth in the company’s internet service, with the subscriber base reaching 102,657 by the end of 2007. The number of ADSL users stood at 20,960 at the same date, up from 16,565 at the end of September 2007. Regarding other methods of connection, Omantel had 50,583 dial-up subscribers, 24,700 users of its Al Ufuq pre-paid card, 299 leased line internet customers, 4,900 ‘Log & Surf’ users and 1,215 subscribers to other services.
