ICE vs Alca-Lu: vendor offers to settle dispute

3 Mar 2008

According to BNamericas, Costa Rican telco ICE is studying a proposal from Alcatel-Lucent (Alca-Lu) to settle a long-running dispute between them. According to an ICE spokesperson, the proposal includes the deployment of additional GSM lines and base stations, worth approximately USD60 million. Last August, ICE demanded that the French equipment vendor pay it USD62.8 million for failing to comply with the terms of a 2002 contract for 400,000 GSM lines, worth USD149 million. At that time ICE’s executive president Pedro Pablo Quiros said that Alca-Lu must compensate ICE for service failures and non-compliance.
