Disney Mobile launches MVNO with Softbank

3 Mar 2008

US-based entertainment group Walt Disney launched a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) service in Japan on Saturday in partnership with network provider Softbank Mobile, just months after exiting its home market and closing its US Disney mobile phone service due to strong competition. Walt Disney Japan unveiled its new Disney Mobile service with the launch of three Sharp-supplied handsets as adorned with silhouette patterns of Mickey Mouse. The new Disney service is understood to include a special web-browsing option that allows the user to jump straight to Disney’s websites, and icons of well known characters that can be used to embellish e-mails free of charge.
