Ceragon Networks, a leading provider of Ethernet and TDM wireless backhaul solutions based in Israel, has been selected to supply KPN of the Netherlands with high-capacity mobile backhaul applications. Ceragon will support the Dutch telco’s HSDPA network expansion by providing fibre-like data rates to rural cell-sites in which fibre connections are either unavailable or are too expensive to deploy, it said in a press release. The expansion is thought to be worth approximately USD1 million. The vendor’s FibeAir IP-MAX2 products support SDH and Ethernet on a single platform, providing a smooth upgrade path to an all-IP network and eliminating the need to replace or upgrade existing switching and radio equipment. KPN is looking to meet growing demand from business and residential users for VoIP, internet and video download applications and is upping mobile network capacity to meet this.
