27 Feb 2008

Celtel Sierra Leone has announced its intention to launch GPRS services nationwide, according to local news source The Awareness Times. No further details were given. TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database reveals that Celtel was the West African country’s leading cellco by subscribers at the end of Q3 2007, with nearly 320,000 users, a 42% market share. It will become the second operator to offer GPRS services; Tigo, owned by Luxembourg’s Millicom International Cellular (MIC), completed the upgrade of its entire network, covering around 50 cities, in August 2007.
