NTT to push new fibre-optic service

25 Feb 2008

Japan’s former telecoms monopoly, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp (NTT), is looking to stimulate demand for its next generation network (NGN) fibre-optic services by offering them for just JPY200 (USD1.86) in addition to a user’s basic monthly rental charge, the Nikkei daily reports without citing sources. The telco hopes the low monthly add-on fee will encourage consumers to switch to the service which features ultra high speed internet access and high definition video images. NTT hopes to sign up 3.4 million new users to NGN services by 31 March 2009, the Nikkei said.
