The Russian fixed line operator Moscow City Telephone Network (MGTS) has launched a USD100 million project to deploy ADSL2+ infrastructure. The new network will allow the operator to offer high definition television (HDTV) services and raise peak internet download speeds to 24Mbps, from 6Mbps currently. MGTS will have high speed services available over 80% of its footprint by end-2009, CNews reports. A pilot zone has already been launched, covering 18,000 households in the Filevsky and Sevastopolsky exchange areas. MGTS is part of the Comstar UTS group.
