VietNamNet Bridge reports that the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC – formerly the Ministry of Post and Telematics) has approved an application by CMC Telecom to operate as an internet service provider (ISP) in Vietnam. Under the agreement, CMC Telecom, a new unit of the CMC Corporation established in November last year, will provide infrastructure, data management, customer service and other value added services over the internet. CMC is already one of the biggest IT companies in Vietnam, earning profits of VND1.34 trillion (USD85.5 million) in 2007. CMC is said to be testing WiMAX technology in the country with technical support from Intel.
