C&W receives Indian DLD, ILD licences

20 Feb 2008

India’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has awarded licences for domestic and international long-distance telephony to UK-owned Cable & Wireless (C&W), which applied for the concessions last August. Cable & Wireless Networks India, a joint venture of C&W and India’s TTK Group, plans to roll out a next-generation network (NGN) to directly provide corporate customers in India with managed IP services. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, other recent long-distance licence recipients in India include US-owned giants AT&T and Verizon, and the UK’s BT Group.
