Thailand’s National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) Chairman Choochart Promphrasid told Reuters yesterday that the regulator expected to issue long-awaited 3G mobile licences to private operators in May this year. The chairman said that the watchdog was in the process of drafting qualification criteria for licences in conjunction with an advisor, which should take about three months. ‘In April, the draft should be launched, then we will hold a public hearing for one month. After that, the 3G licences should be issued [by the end of] May,’ Choochart said. Recent announcements had put the expected date for licensing at around August.
