19 Feb 2008

Canal+ reported having 250,000 subscribers watching mobile TV via EDGE/3G/3.5G technologies on its partner networks SFR and Bouygues Telecom at the end of 2007. The broadcaster currently delivers two products – CanalSat Mobile and Canal+ Mobile – which together have helped the company record subscriber growth of 225% between 2006 and 2007. According to Rapid TV News, the company attributed the strong take-up to ‘a strong branded channels offer, much appreciated by its DTH subscribers and perfectly adapted to mobile TV viewing.’ Meanwhile, its rival, France Telecom subsidiary Orange, is reportedly doing even better, having signed up 500,000 mobile TV subscribers.
